Day 24

Day 24

Day 24: 24 miles

I forgot to mention I crossed the 500 mile marker sometime yesterday. I also forgot
to mention that when I got lost off trail there was an interesting development. There was a lot of signs of bear activity where I was. A lot of tracks, scat, and dried areas of snow where they laid down. Even though I saw a lot of this for a while I didn’t end up seeing any.

It rained off and on last night so the snow was a bit of a sloppy mess this morning. At least the rain is helping it melt some. Late in the day I even got to walk on dirt for a little bit instead of snow which was a nice change up.

I was hoping to be doing a few more miles per day at this point. On a normal day 24 miles is almost perfect for having a decent day and not tiring myself out too much. But walking in snow the whole day is extremely tiring and slowing. Today was at least better than yesterday where I had a lot of knee deep snow. That at least wasn’t the case today. Just to do 24 miles in this is still pretty exhausting. Hopefully this snow melts and I can walk on some normal trail for a while in Virginia. Although I’m not too optimistic.

Song of the day: cry baby-Meg the stallion
