Day 30

Day 30

Day 30: 23 miles

The day got off on a bad start when I lost a piece to my water filter 5 minutes into my day. It fell into the stream and I immediately plunged my hand into the icy cold water but to no avail. It was gone and I am now using a broken water filter.

After that the day wasn’t too great. It relentlessly poured all day and continued into the night. Most of my stuff is soaked. My rain gear is soaked through. My pack cover got soaked through and most stuff near the top of my pack is wet. All of my socks are soaked so that’s gonna be fun on the morning.

I thought I was losing it for a while today. Even before my filter broke I haven’t been drinking a lot of water lately because I’m always trying to keep moving and I’m usually cold/wet and don’t want to stop to get it. While walking through a pasture a couple farm dogs ran up and followed me for a bit. Whatever, not super strange. But later when I was walking on a ridge in the middle of nowhere I saw another dog! I actually was worried I was hallucinating but he was leaving footprints unless I was hallucinating those too.

A good amount of the day was ridge walking with open views. This would’ve been cool if it wasn’t overcast and I could actually see something or if it wasn’t raining and the rocks weren’t all slippery.

I witnessed a bird fight this morning. It was quite an entertaining aerial spectacle.

Passed a sign for the eastern continental divide, I’m more excited for the western

A fairly harsh day in earn it season

Song of the day: chill bill-rob stone
