Day 40

Day 40

Day 40: 25 miles

Last night was so calm it was strange. There was no wind, no animals rustling, no trees creaking, nothing. It’s almost like everything knew it was too cold to be doing anything. I didn’t mind it cause it meant no wind to make it colder and no mice to deal with.

I slept in this morning past the peak of the cold and got a later start. I didn’t have cell reception but I’d guess it was around 0 at the worst. I was cozy in my sleeping bag so I didn’t notice it too much except that my cheese was a solid brick and some water sources were just ice.

It ended up being an amazing day. It warmed up enough so I could shed some layers of gloves and even a hat at some points. There were a couple great spots today. Crescent rock was my mcafee knob. And little stony man was a breathtaking scene. I saw probably 80-100 deer this morning in a meadow. I cant remember what a group of deer is called. Hopefully something cool like pride or murder and not something lame like herd.

I self arrested (stopping yourself sliding down a hill with some device) for the first time today. There was a short stretch that was just a diagonal ice sheet. Because I’m stubborn I though i could just get across it quick without my microspikes. A few steps in I started to slowly slide downhill. I fell and continued to slide then I stabbed a trekking pole into the ice above me and one below me to stop myself. Definitely not textbook but it worked. And the hill wasnt big or anything so it wouldn’t have been disastrous just annoying and a little painful.

Yesterday I mentioned I dream of warmer days when I don’t have gloves and can operate my phone easier. I also dream of those days so that whenever I’m looking down at my phone snot doesn’t drip on it because my nose is running 24/7. Someday.

Privy bivy round 2 tonight! This is deluxe. It’s got heat, water, and power outlets. Not that I’m complaining but some minor inconveniences are that the water is scalding hot and the lights can’t turn off.

Song of the day: best friend-saweetie and Doja cat
I downloaded some new releases recently and these female rappers just keep banging
