Day 45

Day 45

Day 45: 23 miles

After having a great zero day I got back to work today and cruised a pretty easy 23 mile day. With the warm weather, and lower elevation, snow is really starting to disappear from significant parts of the trail. I just hope this continues and finishes off the ice and mush that is left.

I’m digging the Maryland section of the trail, it’s flat and pretty easy to do. I’ll be crossing into Pennsylvania tomorrow where I already knocked out most of the trail when my start in Georgia got delayed. I already hiked approximately 155 miles in Pennsylvania so I’ve only got 50-60 miles left then I’m on to New Jersey.

The highlight of the day today, other than pretty generous trail, was seeing the original Washington monument. To be honest, before I saw it on the map a few weeks ago, I didn’t know there was another original. It’s not as elegant as the remake, but it’s still cool to see.

Towards the end of the day today I was crossing a bridge over a busy interstate with rush hour traffic. It was a great reminder of how blessed I am to be out here doing what I love rather than stuck in traffic.

Song of the day: Cumbersome- seven Mary three
