Day 5

Day 5: 28 miles

I woke up to find my shoes were rock hard and no amount of bending or twisting would get them on. I sat on them for a few minutes to warm them up and was finally able to get them on.

The morning started out cold and I kept getting snowed on any time a gust of wind would knock it off the branches. It ended up being a good day although walking through snow all day. I used my micro spikes again for most of the day but I need to figure out how to fit them properly every time because they are putting a lot of pressure on my toes and I don’t want to lose a toenail this early.

Got a ride into Franklin to resupply from 2 lovely ladies in the parking lot at the trail head. Had to get a shuttle back out of town cause it would’ve been a tough hitch. People are less hesitant to pick up a person right by the trail rather than a homeless looking guy that smells in the Walmart parking lot.

I cruised the last 5 miles after I resupplied but it started snowing earlier than it was supposed to so I did get hit on the way. Thankfully as I pulled up to camp there was 3 guys with a fire having a good time. I’ve got a shorter day tomorrow but still couldn’t celebrate too much. Still got a lot to do. Seeing them was a nice change of pace from camping alone. Really cool guys.

It’s not their fault but one of them was trying to dry out my shoes by the fire and kind of burned one of them. Fire damage is one thing I was not expecting on this trip.

Supposed to get a few more inches of snow tonight. I’ll take precipation at night. Dear AT you can give me all the precipitation at night that you want as long as it’s not during the day. (But if we are negotiating, I would prefer rain at night rather than snow.)
