Day 60

Day 60: 33 miles
I crossed over into New York this morning but about missed it cause the painting on the rocks was partially covered by snow. I can’t wait to have water that tastes perfectly average, mediocre bagels, and overpay for pizza that doesn’t even taste as good as little caesars. That should be enough to have my NY followers ranting for 45 minutes. I could see the city this morning from very far away through the smog.
It is supposed to really warm up here soon but I am liking these cold temperatures. They’re not unbearable but they do a good job of keeping the snow firm so it’s better to walk on during the day and I’m not postholing constantly. Lately it’s been 10-15 at night and mid to high 20s during the day. I wouldn’t mind if this kept up for a while longer.
I got some great help from a trail angel today. I can’t go more than a week without benefitting from some great act of kindness from a stranger.
So far in New York I have really appreciated the beautiful streams. The dark soil underneath makes the water look black flowing in icy streams surrounded by snow. It’s an amazing contrast and gives off vibes from the revenant.
A less great part has been climbs that are rewarded with nothing but an immediate climb down because trees are blocking the view everywhere. There were some climbs today that were really steep and I had to ditch my poles and climb on all 4s to keep moving up on snow and ice. I have heard about these climbs in the north but am now just starting to reach some.
Tomorrow should be interesting as there is not a shelter for a long time, farther than I likely can cover in 1 day with the terrain. I have not gotten my tent sent back to me yet but looks like that shall be soon with shelters more spaced out in the north.
