Day 61

Day 61: 17 miles
I probably saw more people today than all of the last month. I climbed bear mountain which is an extremely popular day hiking spot for New Yorkers. I wish I would’ve gotten there on a weekday rather than the weekend. It was a little too busy to be really enjoyable. But the one bright side of all the people was comedy. I love listening to the random babblings that kids say. And after passing one group of people today I heard them say “that’s the best ad for lays chips I’ve ever seen.” @lays I’m open to more product placement. Although it probably could’ve been avoided if the store I bought food at sold some size other than super mega ultra large.
Towards the end of the day I got a burger and small resupply at a gas station. The environment was a blast from the past. I heard closer by chainsmokers and anyone that was in college in the fall of 2016 knows that that song, along with broccoli, were the anthems of fall 2016. But even more nostalgic than that was something that brought me back to my childhood television memories. The sun setter retractable awning. For those that remember this one, it speaks for itself.
Today I also went through the Trailside zoo. This was a bit of a let down. I am not a big anti-zoo guy but it just seemed like the animals didn’t have the best environment there. It is also the lowest elevation on trail so it’s all uphill from here. The one cool part of this was that I saw a fox for the first time since I was night hiking 2 years ago. Back then, I couldn’t get a good view of it so I thought it was a fat cat for while until I got a better view.
With the lack of shelter tonight I was probably just going to hike all through the night. I really didn’t want to do this cause 1, it’s not enjoyable, and 2, it would really knock me out of whack the next few days. I ended up finding a church pavilion which is like a roofed picnic area, a little off trail so I would at least have shelter from precipitation if it came. Although I will still be exposed largely to the wind and it’s under a bit of construction.
Back in Putnam county. Shoutout to the homebase
