Day 66

Day 66: 37 miles
Lately I’ve kinda been taking it easy. I’ve been sleeping in too late and ending the day too early. Part of this was because shelters were more scarce but part of it is because I was just taking the easy way out and gliding on cruise control. I needed to get back to work and today was a work day.
The conditions were not ideal. With all the warm temperatures lately, melt szn has begun and for much of today the trail was a river (2nd last vid is the trail) or under several inches of stagnant water. Some climbs up or down were just ice sheets and extremely difficult to maneuver around. And some spots were deep snow really in melt and I would posthole up to my thighs. Didn’t matter. I knew I was gonna take a zero day tomorrow and needed a big day today to earn it.
I got to bear mountain for sunrise but it was partially cloud covered. Then the climb up to mount race was incredible. It was on the side of the mountain with open ledges and birds gliding nearby. I couldn’t really capture the beauty of it, but if you’re in the southern mass area (oh yeah I crossed into Massachusetts today), the south side of mount race is amazing. Everett mountain was alright but the summit was mostly covered in little trees so I couldn’t see much.
Later in the day, at a road I came across this guy who asked if i wanted a beer. And after that rhetorical question I enjoyed a couple brews. I’m not complaining, but why does every beer that someone gives for free have to be an IPA? Can’t a man just get a natty light?
Taking a zero tomorrow to prepare for trail that is only gonna get more difficult as I go
Song of the day: got the life-Korn
